We arrived!

Wednesday
Cary's birthday, so we visited a Chinese buffet for lunch and then Jen had organised a small party (cake and ice cream) for tea.

Thursday
Jodie & Wendy took us along to Philly zoo. Very impressive. The kids particularly loved the otters. Carys badgered (!) for pictures of a zebra and a giraffe for her friends. I liked the colour of the pandas.

Friday
One of the reasons I was looking forward to being in the area was to visit Gettysburg, scene of the greatest loss of American life in a battle. I have read a bit of what there is about the scenes of Jul 1-4 1863, but to see the scale of the battlefield was amazing. And to think that it was so recent. It is a warning that war is not so far away as we think.

What a day! Snow, worship, word & friends!

Llywela drew my attention to the weather forecast last night - a white blanket over the western half of the UK. Morning, 5:30 - it was delivered as promised. A bit slushy for my liking though...

We made it to the morning meeting. Most people did, though the Porters and a few other malingerers (the Manuels) said something about deep snow in the valleys and stayed in bed! Hey, I live in the valleys, and I got to Christchurch. Even better Dave, Al & Nathan came down from Merthyr, and that's practically the Artic (you can see the northern lights from Dowlais Top).

Wonderful time of worship! We dare to take God's empowering presence for granted... but He continues to meet with us, and graciously blessed us. He reminded us that He knows us by name, intimately, from before we were born.

And excellent preaching of God's Word that reminds us that salvation is part of covenant, and is soli deo glori - all of grace.

The Harris' boiler had gone phut. So we spent a wonderful afternoon together eating aple pie, cake, cheese on toast and drop scones. My wife is a wonderful hostess. Thanks also to James & Claire.
